NEET PG Registration Begins With Glitches National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test for admissions to postgraduate medical program MD/MS began on Thursday, 4 October with utter chaos. The Axis Bank, who is manager to issue exam vouchers against the payment of the exam fees, did not have means to handle the rush, nor on the other side the online registration for the examination was glitch free.

The procedure to register for NEET requires candidates to first pay up the examination fee at an Axis Bank branch and then register for the examination online, using the voucher given to them by the bank. However, candidates said they had faced problems on both counts.

About 80,000 to 1 lakh candidates are expected to write the newly-introduced PG entrance examination from across the country. While many students complained about the total mismanagement at the bank due to which they faced delays in procuring vouchers, the others who could get the voucher complained that the website for registration was inaccessible for most candidates for most of time as the server was down/slow due to the overload.

Most candidates who managed to register themselves for the computer-based examination said that they could not opt for test centres within their state or even in neighbouring states. For example few students from Andhra were left with choice of centres at Guwahati, Patna or Raipur.

NEET-PG exam registration is being held from October 4 to November 12. The examination dates are from November 23 to December 6. NEET-PG, which comes under the purview of National Board of Examination, is the only entrance examination for higher studies in medical education that would guarantee an MD. Students who could not register on the first day are a worried lot over as their chances could be beaten by the technical glitches, for which they are not responsible and there is no state level entrance of PG in medical to try another chance.

Testing company Prometric is responsible for the online registration of candidates and also for the conduct of NEET-PG examination. Many candidates alleged that Prometric has been rather vague about various aspects of the examination including scoring and syllabus.

The National Board of Examination (NBE) had announced that NEET-PG will be held in January, 2013, however, the examination was advanced to November, on a very short notice.
