Culinary art, as the name suggests, is all about food – how to prepare it, how to cook it, and how to make it look like a work of art. The course teaches cooking and baking techniques, garnishing, knife skills, food carving, plate presentation, food photography, and hotel & restaurant management. The hands-on training develops critical thinking skills necessary to run a food service operation. You also learn multi-tasking, supervising a team, keeping a check on nutritional levels, menu development, and marketing of food. The program is 3/4 year duration, full time and administered on campus.

Scope for a graduate in culinary art :

A culinary art graduate can be employed as a kitchen manager, Sous-chef, banquet chef, restaurant chef, personal chef, food service director, food stylist, research and development chef, etc. In the hotel industry, a fresher who joins as a management trainee can earn around Rs. 20,000.

Eligibility criteria :

  • Successful completion of the Std.XII (10+2) or equivalent examination in any stream with English as the medium of instruction
  • Students appearing for their board exams in the current year are also eligible subject to successfully qualifying in the Board Examination

Culinary art subjects :

The list of these subjects is not exhaustive and may be different for different universities. This is a very broad list – Culinary Skill, Baking & Patisserie, International Food Safety & Nutrition, Food Cost & Inventory Management, Global Cuisine and Gastronomy, Food Styling & Presentation.
