Community College To Provide Employability Skills with Job Skills University of Mumbai has announced the launch of community college in association with Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Private Limited (HCCB). The community college is ideally suited for those people who have completed their Higher Secondary School Certificate, HSSC (Class XII) but did not have a chance to pursue a formal degree of graduation.

The Community College initiative will offer a two-year associate degree course, with a mix of imparting employability skills, job skills and employability development, so that the youth who have been deprived of a college degree can become the part of mainstream educated class and contribute in the country’s socio-economic progress. The program has been so designed to integrate on-the-job training and academic knowledge in one.

While the program also offers students the choice to join the third year of a regular course and obtain a degree of Graduation, the students who complete this 2 year program will be eligible to apply for employment with HCCB or its business partners for Market Developer Executive/ Sales Executive positions.

This Associate Degree Program will be offered at KG Joshi College of Arts and NG Bedekar College of Commerce, Thane, Rayat Shikshan Sanstha’s Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College (Modern College), Navi Mumbai, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Arts, Commerce & Science, Mahad & Shri Pancham Khemraj Mahavidyalaya (SPK), Sawant Wadi; affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The course will be extended to include more colleges subsequently.

The courses shall be taken by a joint faculty of Mumbai University and HCCB. Every semester shall have 3-months of classroom sessions followed by 3-months of field training.

The first batch of classes shall commence from November 2012.
