 Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University First Year MBBS Result Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University declared the results of the first year MBBS on Friday. Out of 3462 students appearing from 29 colleges affiliated to the university, only 2341, 67% could pass the exam, with Annapoorna Medical College scoring the least pass percentage (45.94). IRT Perundurai Medical College had the highest pass percentage (86.67) followed by Stanley Medical College (85.33), Coimbatore Medical College (85.03) and Kilpauk Medical College (85).

Actually the results which were scheduled to be declared on October 8, but were withheld for obtaining the opinion of MCI on the issue of enhancement in the bar of passing percentage, for which the approval was only received on Thursday. Officials are attributing the lower pass percentage to the revised criteria for clearing the exam.

University officials said the pass percentage dropped as the exam rules have been made more stringent. Students now have to score a minimum of 50% marks in each paper to clear the exam. Earlier, they needed an aggregate of 50%.

According to Vice-chancellor Dr Mayil Vahanan Natarajan, the change in the passing criteria was necessary for enhancement to the medical education standards.
