NEET 2013 To Have Negative Marking System The Medical Council of India (MCI) has decided to implement negative marking in the undergraduate National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET 2013) to be held on 5th May 2013. According to earlier reports, MCI was understood to have done away with the negative marking, and hence most students have not been preparing for the test from that point of view. However, now the MCI has clarified that negative marking will indeed be the part of NEET 2013 assessment process.

In a reply to the specific question at serial number 36 posted on FAQ Section of the official site of NEET 2013, it describes the scheme for negative marking. According the reply, each question carries 4 marks and each wrong answer would mean deduction of 1 mark from the total score. Also it has been made clear that the NEET 2013 is not going to give weightage to Class 12 Board marks, in reply to the related question at serial number 23.

The NEET 2013 will consist of one paper containing 180 objective type questions (four options with single correct answer) from the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany & Zoology) to be answered on the specially designed machine-gradable sheet using Blue/Black Ball Point Pen only, the MCI has said.

The announcement of including negative marking system in NEET at this stage has evoked a mixed response from the students, parents and coaching centres. However, everybody agrees to negative marking would ensure that only the best would get selected, it is the time of this announcement when the academic session is almost halfway through, that most students and parents have voiced their concern.
