University of Pune (UoP) announced on Saturday that a new two-year masters program in technology (M.Tech) will be started from academic year 2012-13. The UoP management council approved the introduction of this program at its meeting held on Friday.
The course will be run by the university’s department of technology, which is an independent self-supporting unit of the university. The UoP’s technology department was carved out from the earlier department of engineering and technology, for running the industry-supported integrated M.Tech-Ph.D course, which was introduced last year.
The new M.Tech program will have a student intake of 30 seats and the study projects in the second year of the course will be sponsored by the university’s industry partners. The university already has nearly 15 prominent industries, which are supporting the integrated M.Tech-Ph.D program, while the response from others is awaited of the 100 industry partners to whom the university had approached.
