Robotics is a technology related to the design, manufacture and application of robots in the various fields – day-to-day life or scientific exploration or industrial processes. Robots are those mechanical devices that are controlled by computer programs.

Robotics being an inter-disciplinary course, students who have completed their graduation in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, instrumentation engineering or computer engineering, with an interest in robotics and artificial intelligence can also pursue a course / PG in robotics. In present world robots are replacing humans where conditions are hazardous, tedious and manipulative in industrial units, space ships, atomic plants, mines and deep-sea vessels. The computerization of work through robotics has greatly increased productivity.

Job Prospects -

Robotics engineering is one of the recognized professional careers. There are ample opportunities in this field for robotics engineers both at home as well as in abroad countries. From manufacturing line robots to experimental robotics for the military, medical and automotive industries, the future of robotics engineering certainly offers a variety of opportunities for professionals entering the field. A candidate having an M.E. degree in robotics can find employment opportunities in space research organizations such as ISRO and also in industries which manufacture microchips.

Most robotics engineers are employed in laboratories, space exploration, manufacturing plants, mining and organizations. Now-a-days gaming industries are possibly providing the most enjoyable variation of the kind of intelligence provided by robotics. Most robotics engineers are employed by private robot manufacturers or robot users. Robotics engineers who work for robot manufacturers are sometimes called robotics test engineers or automation system engineers. Professionals in this career can also opt for teaching jobs in universities and colleges.

Eligibility Criteria -

The normal UG Engineering criteria, 10 + 2 with science subjects and rank in JEE (Entrance Test for Engineering). For PG you have to be BE/BTech in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, instrumentation engineering or computer engineering, with an interest in robotics and artificial intelligence.
