BSE Institute To Promote Financial Literacy in Schools BSE Institute has recently announced to promote financial literacy within schools. It has join hands with Eduheal Foundation to conduct a national level financial quiz competition – BSE International Financial Olympiad (BSE IFO).

The initiative is aimed to promote the advancement, discovery, learning ,and application of commerce and finance at young age. The Olympiad is designed to encourage students studying in class IX through XII to explore, discover, and learn more about financial world and to develop analytical and problem solving skills that will be essential to their career.

It will also empower students with a proper understanding of the opportunities in the financial markets. Financial Olympiad will not only help students prioritize their personal financial goals, but also help them become financially responsible individuals and citizens. Besides, it will help parents in a way that their children will grow into financially responsible adults.

BSE International Financial Olympiad invites students of class IX through XII, interested in Economics, Commerce, Accounts and Business Studies irrespective of their current branch of studies, to participate through their schools. The competition is conducted at 3 levels :

Level 1- City/State: Level 1 will be organized by schools, whereby three students each from class IX to XII will be nominated based on an intra-school quiz for the National round. Students may download Sample Question Papers for the preparation of the BSE IFO.

Level 2- National: Shortlisted students will appear for an all India online exam based on the syllabus of CBSE, ICSE, State Boards and NCF (National curriculum framework). An online exam will be organized by Eduheal foundation through its centres. 50% questions will be from financial literacy
and general economics and aptitude. Remaining 50% will be from subjects being studied by students. The medium of the Olympiad will be in English language. The exam will be held in first week of January 2013, the exact dates will be announced through the participating schools.

Level 3- Finals: Top 48 merit students from all over India will attend quiz finals at BSE Convention centre, Mumbai on 18 January 2013. Finally 12 students will emerge as national winners of the 1st BSE International Financial Olympiad. This event will be widely broadcasted in the media.

On 18th January 2013, Prize distribution ceremony will be organized jointly by BSE Institute Ltd. and EHF at the BSE Convention centre, Mumbai.

The BSE Investors’ Protection Fund has instituted the awards. There are three awards – Students award of Rs. 10,000 each for 3 students, Principal Award of Rs.25,000 each for 4 school principals one each from North/South/East/West regions and Teacher Award of Rs.15,000 each for 8 teachers two from each of North/South/East/West regions.

The last date for schools to participate in the first of its kind financial Olympiad in the country is 15th December 2012.
