CBSE To Offer Legal Studies in Std XI and Std XII Senior Secondary Classes Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to introduce Legal Studies as an elective subject in senior secondary classes from the ensuing academic session 2013-14. The subject will be launched at 200 schools to start with as pilot project.

The Board has already sent letters to the affiliated schools on April 5 to invite letter of intent from as many as from them. The subject will be first introduced in June 2013 in class XI and carried forward for the same batch into the next academic year in class XII.

The subject contents will include theory and nature of political institutions, nature and sources of law, historical evolution of Indian legal system, civil and criminal courts and processes, family justice system, arbitration, tribunal adjudication, alternate dispute resolution etc.

The course will pave the way to five year integrated law program for those students aiming to make their career in law.

“Familiarity with law enhances one’s understanding of public affairs and awareness of one’s entitlements as citizen. Understanding of law can encourage talented students to pursue a career in law,” insists a CBSE official.
