Chevening Rolls-Royce science and innovation leadership programme The Chevening scholarships offer highly coveted opportunities for India’s future leaders, decision makers and opinion formers. They are specifically meant for outstanding Indians who are leaders in their own fields and are looking to form networks & strengthen their opportunities. They help recipients hone their leadership qualities by providing them with an opportunity to study in the stimulating intellectual environs of Britain’s leading institutions of higher learning.

Successful applicants are judged on their personal attributes like intelligence, academic potential, drive, self management, strength of character, integrity, relevant interests outside work and wish to “make a difference” as well as their leadership potential such as their influencing and communications skills, track record, existing network of contacts, ambitions and plans for the future.

Chevening Rolls-Royce Science and Innovation Leadership Program 2013 :

The Chevening Rolls-Royce science and innovation leadership program (CRISP) presents a challenging opportunity at the Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, to explore innovation and science policy, from an academic, practical and a personal perspective.

The program aims to offer a multi-faceted learning experience comprising lectures, seminars, a range of external speakers, visits, tutorials, debates, cultural events and discussions, a social program, and more.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Rolls-Royce offer this 11-week fully-funded scholarship in India. The program includes a wide range of modules including bridging pure research and business / scientific entrepreneurship, practical processes of innovation, commercialisation of research and technology transfer. The course is aimed at some of India’s brightest scientists, business people and public servants.

Each scholarship covers the following -

  • Full Program fees
  • Living expenses for the duration of the scholarship for a maximum period of 11 weeks
  • Return airfare from India to UK
  • UK Visa

Programme Duration: 11 weeks from 10 April – 20 June 2013

Eligibility Criteria :

Successful applicants should have the ‘Chevening’ qualities of drive, leadership potential, a commitment to change, talent for innovation and creativity, and the ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances.

The program will be broad-based and demanding. Chevening Scholars will have the opportunity to develop their own contacts. Candidates will therefore need to demonstrate independent thinking, a deep interest in and commitment to innovation, the ability to work in diverse teams as well as individually, excellent academic qualifications, and above all the motivation to contribute constructively to the program. Applicants should be able think creatively, to develop collaboration between India and the UK, often in complex and fast-moving areas.

Candidates will be expected to have had at least ten years work experience after their first degree, and expect to have at least fifteen working years ahead after the end of the program.

Applications are invited from exceptional candidates from public, private and NGO sectors. Candidates should have either a strong academic background in science or technology or considerable experience of working in such fields. Their work should ideally be cross-disciplinary and of a type where developing links with UK industry and research is of mutual benefit.

General Eligibility Criteria :

  • An Indian national with a valid Indian passport
  • Conversant with written and spoken English

You are not eligible if you -

  • Have in the past received a British Government funded scholarship
  • Work for the British Government (including the British Council, DFID and PAG’s). Ex employees too cannot apply until 2 years of leaving.
  • Apply from another country
