HC Clears 16 PG Seats At GMC Nagpur Rejected By MCI The Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court, Monday, quashed the order of 28 December 2012 of Medical Council of India (MCI) wherein the council had rejected the proposal of Government Medical College, Nagpur for increasing the PG seats by 16. The breakup of 16 PG seats includes – 7 (Orthopaedic), 3 (Forensic Medicine), 3 (Skin & Venereology) and 3 (Radio Diagnosis).

The MCI’s order was set aside by the HC on the ground that though it is mandatory to intimate rejection within 30 days of application, the MCI did not do so.

The division bench of Justices Bhushan Dharmadhikari and Arun Chaudhari directed MCI to treat the application submitted by the college from the ensuing academic year.

The petition was filed by IMA president Dr Harish Chandak. Advocate Bhanudas Kulkarni, held the brief for IMA.

Counsel for the petitioner told the court that GMC, Nagpur had submitted the application to increase the PG seats on May 30 last year will all the required documents and inspection fees of Rs.8 Lakhs.
