IIT B Robotic Competition E-Yantra The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) is planning to extend the Centre-sponsored robotics competition, e-Yantra, to teachers and other engineering colleges. While the contest’s details are yet to be finalized, a proposal of extending the contest to the colleges which participated in the related workshops held earlier is under consideration, said an official.

E-Yantra has been conceptualized by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under the National Mission for Education Through ICT (NMEICT) to provide learning infrastructure to engineering students who have limited access to labs and mentors. Meanwhile, over 6,000 students from 200 colleges across the country registered for e-Yantra. The Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay will help engineering colleges to set up a robotics laboratory on campus under the scheme.

The institute has selected 480 students for the competition after rigorous selection process. The remaining students, who did not qualify for e-Yantra, can register for an ‘Ideas Competition’ that will start from Monday, 10 September 2012.

In the Ideas Competition, students can pick up any problems depending on their geographical locations and help in solving the problem using a machine. They just need to have an idea and concept note on how the idea can be executed. The institute will give them the format of writing the plan and around 20 students who win the Ideas Competition will get to do internship at IIT-B.
