IIT Kanpur (IIT K) has purchased a Cessna aircraft from the US worth Rs.2.5 crores to encourage research and development among the students of aerospace engineering.
The aerospace engineering department has two small planes in their flight lab but these were not enough for the students, said R K Sachan, acting Registrar, IIT K. “To encourage research, and facilitate them in their work this plane has been bought,” he added.
He was confident that by next month the Cessna aircraft will be delivered to the institute. “Cessna has a single engine and it can remain air-borne for around seven hours after fuelling,” said Sachan.
