RTM Nagpur University Running ME (Research) Without AICTE Approval As what should come as a fresh embarrassing situation, in addition to already inviting all round criticism for mishandling of unnecessary deferring of all engineering exams that adversely affected over 60,000 students only to benefit the private engineering colleges owned by certain politicians, Thursday, the Academic Council had to discuss over the complains of some colleges running ME (Research), granted affiliation by the RTM Nagpur University, while the program is running without AICTE Approval, since about last 3 decades.

While accepting that the issue was indeed discussed in the Academic Council on Thursday, the Registrar RTM Nagpur University informed that the university had dispatched a letter to AICTE asking them to clear the confusion regarding the course and also its equivalence with the regular courses, and seek its approval.

Meanwhile Engineering Dean Ravindra Kshirsagar however blasted the RTM Nagpur Universitiy administration for not being aware of the facts and for taking late decision while putting the future of students in jeopardy. He questioned the adoption of the resolution in this regard after the complaints about the course and asking for AICTE approval only after running the course for a period of almost three decades.

ME (Research), unlike the regular ME course, can not be pursued from any college, but is very much like regular PhD where the examiners came and take your viva-voce and other exams. The normal duration is of two years but can be stretched to five years as per the candidate’s ability to research. Candidates had to read at least 50 books and other material for writing thesis just like PhD, the only difference is that they claim only Master’s degree. The ME (Research) program is basically designed for those working engineers who wanted to pursue postgraduate degree.

The Engineering Dean Ravindra Kshirsagar however refused to blame the colleges, which according him only providing the infrastructure and facility to carry out the research, and the course is governed by an Ordinance which was around 30 years old.

The RTM Nagpur University top brass also invited a huge controversy while asking the private colleges, mostly owned by politicians and education barons, to complete the mandatory 90-day syllabus within just 30-day period with a view to allow their illegally admitted students to appear in the exams.
