PGIMER Cancels MD Entrance Examination The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) Chandigarh has declared the MD/MS entrance exam, which was conducted last week as canceled. The exam may be conducted again next month, the reliable sources said.

“The examination has been cancelled. Now, another date for holding the entrance test for the MD (doctor of medicine) /MS (master of surgery) will be announced later,” PGIMER spokesperson, Manju Wadwalkar said.

The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) had withheld the result of the MD entrance examination following the arrests made by CBI in a swoop at different examination centres where students were found writing the exams with the help of blue-tooth hearing devices embedded in their ears.

CBI found that, the 7 girls out of total 14 arrested, who did not hold the proper MBBS degree required to qualify for the examination, were appearing merely to leak the question paper thereby acting as facilitators for some other candidates.

The decision to cancel the entrance examination was taken keeping in mind that it was not known how many candidates were beneficiaries in the cheating, and therefore, it would be in the interest of all genuine candidates, to take such a step, the official announcement said.

About 7300 students appeared in the examination for 78 post graduation seats in various departments of PGIMER in 11 different examination centres.
