The HRD Minister, Kapil Sibal made some tough talk on the issue of Joint Entrance Test for Engineering institutions and IITs while expressing his willingness to sort out the differences and objections being raised by IIT alumni association and All India IIT Faculty Federation. IIT Delhi Alumni Association also expressed its willingness to discuss the issue while asserting that the legal course was still an option in consideration, to oppose the proposal in the present form. Kapil Sibal is currently in Washington.

The minister trashed the allegation of intention to infringe the IIT system’s autonomy and insisted that the decision was not that of his Ministry but it was unanimously taken with IIT council which consisted of all the IIT directors and chairmen and NIT council representatives. The minister insisted that the autonomy of these prime institutions is going to be maintained as the exam that is being contemplated will be set by the IITs only and not by the government or Ministry or anybody else.

IIT Delhi Alumni Association is insisting that the proposed JEE will not only ruin the IIT’s autonomy but will also be detrimental to the interests of the students from the rural India and the move will benefit no students but only the coaching classes.
