Woman Topper of UPSC Exam Scores 53% Hitherto the score of those successful candidates in the elite Civil Services Examination conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), to be appointed as IAS, IPS and IFS officers was a curiosity. Breaking the tradition of sending the scores to individual candidates only so far, this time for the first, the UPSC has made public the final marks of all successful candidates.

The general category has scores between 48% and 53% points to the fact that that it is tough to score high marks for even those candidates who come from Science and Engineering background and even trying for 2nd or even 3rd time. The general category the minimum cut-of was set to 42% while in the other categories the cut-off was as low as 35%.

Haritha V Kumar, the topper of UPSC Civil Services Examination 2012 and an engineer from Kerala has scored 1193 out of 2250 marks which amounts to 53%. There are other 3 candidates who have scored marks above 50% in the coveted examination.

The move to display final marks on UPSC website came following a direction from the Central Information Commission (CIC). CIC used to receive requests seeking direction to the UPSC for publicising the final scores.
