AICTE May File Review Petition Against The Order Dt. 25 Apr of SC Court While as managements of some of the private B-Schools are heaving a sigh of relief for a judgement handed by a Supreme Court bench which knocked out the authority of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) for granting approval to MBA & MCA courses, the apex body is all preparing to file a review petition shortly.

The Supreme Court judgement which came on Thursday last described the role of AICTE as merely an adviser and ruled that the private colleges will no longer require permission of AICTE to conduct MBA and MCA courses, particularly the MBA course being non-technical under the definition of AICTE Act.

The academic world seemed to be divided in its opinion over the SC judgement. While some welcomed the decision for this order would bring academic freedom to the institutions; a section of academicians feared that there may be the misuse of this very freedom.

This judgement means that the common Arts and Science colleges will now be able to run the MBA courses which may lack the quality, believe some stake holders. They say that the AICTE’s efforts to improve the quality of education has helped to an extent. The universities do not have mechanism to be vigil on the quality of such professional education though it may not be technical.

Many management experts point out that the quality of teachers which had improved after AICTE’s intervention, may be compromised once the universities are given control.
